Exports of footwear components – chemicals (adhesives), uppers, soles, insoles, synthetic laminates, etc. – amounted to US$ 71.3 million in the first two months of the year, 37% more than in the same period of 2021. On the pre-pandemic period of 2019 there is already a recovery of 13% compared to the first two months of that year. The data were prepared by the Brazilian Association of Leather, Footwear and Manufactured Goods Companies (Assintecal - Associação Brasileira das Empresas de Componentes para Couro, Calçados e Artefatos).

Assintecal's international market manager, Luiz Ribas Júnior, points out that February totaled 34 million dollars, 61% more than in the same month last year: "Demand for footwear is buoyant in the main markets of the world and there is a tendency to replace the import of components from Asia, mainly due to logistics costs and the trade war between the United States and China. In this context, Brazil presents itself as one of the most important players in the Western world, with a wide range of materials produced with excellence, technology and sustainability and the indices are expected to continue to rise until the end of the year.

Destinations

In the first two months the main destination of Brazilian exports of components was China, with the equivalent of 18 million dollars, 72% more than in the same period of 2021. The second importer of the Brazilian component in the period was Argentina, with 14 million dollars, 159% more than the same range last year. The third destination was Portugal, with 9.43 million dollars, 155% more than in 2021.
