Big brands, from Adidas to Patagonia, are on track to eliminate virgin polyester from their products, but almost all the recycled polyester available on the market today comes from plastic bottles, not old clothes. And once it's turned into textiles, that plastic is much harder to keep in circulation than if it were left a bottle that could be recycled again and again.
