Footwear +4.7% in April compared to last year, according to information from FDRA, also reported by FN. Men's footwear increased by +2.5%, women's +6.4% and childhood +5.0%. Footwear prices have increased by 6.1% year-to-date compared to the first four months of 2021. The tariffs have greatly contributed to the rise in shoe prices, and the FDRA believes footwear will increase at the fastest pace in decades.
In the first quarter of 2022, shoemakers' stock prices fell sharply, following the decline in global stock markets. However, the Indian and Brazilian companies monitored quarterly by ShoeIntelligence had very positive performances.
In March, world food prices rose by 12.6% and the FAO Meat and Slaughter By-Products Price Index averaged 120.0 points, up 5.5 points (4.8%) from February (the all-time high). Prices of beef slaughter products have risen as low slaughter has persisted in some key producing regions, while global demand has remained solid.

Shoe prices rose 6% in January as inflation soars to a 40-year high, FN writes. Consumer prices rose by 7.5% in January compared to a year ago, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly report. This number was up from the 7% growth in December and represented the highest inflation rate since the 12-month period ending in February 1982.
