France, rules on advertising to avoid greenwashing in line with the "Loi Climat et résilience"

As part of its legislative arsenal to combat climate change, the French government has now introduced the next stage of its anti-greenwashing legislation, effective January 1, 2023. The new rules are a major step in controlling advertising claims on carbon offsetting and carbon neutrality, following laws that came into effect in the summer of 2022. A gloomy economic picture

Growing protectionism and worsening international cooperation could badly damage the world economy, the International Monetary Fund said. Its report, released on the eve of the Davos summit — a paean to free trade and global integration — argues that poorer countries would be hit harder than rich ones. The projections add to continued gloom over economic prospects worldwide, with economists still predicting a recession as likely, despite signs of slowing inflation and hopes that China’s abandonment of zero-COVID could boost growth. Donors pledged more than $9 billion to help Pakistan rebuild after massive floods last year

The disaster, which left at least 1,700 people dead and pushed nine million into poverty, dealt a hammer blow to Pakistan’s already teetering economy. This week the country, which faces the prospect of defaulting on its debt, held talks with the International Monetary Fund to restart a stalled bailout program. Pakistan may also offer a terrifying model of climate disasters to come. “We are all — increasingly — at the mercy of forces of nature that do not respect borders,” its prime minister wrote in The Guardian.

Bangladesh, Dissemination workshop on "institutional policy framework in the Tannery Workers Union"

The European Parliament and Member States have reached an agreement on the reform of the CO2 market and to reduce the impact of greenhouse gases

The agreement achieves the goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 55% by the end of the decade. A new Emissions Trading System (ETS) and a Social Climate Fund (SCF). Power generators and heavy polluters covered by the ETS will have to reduce their pollution by 62% by the end of the decade, 1% more than initially proposed by the European Commission.  Waste will be covered by the scheme from 2028, with potential derogations until 2030.  [EU reaches deal on critical climate policy after marathon talks – Politico]
