A livestock crisis is approaching due to drought

Cattle are dying in droves in Somalia, which is experiencing one of the worst droughts in the country's  recent history. Drought has become a major problem also for Argentine ranchers. About 26 million cattle are at risk of dying from lack of water and feed. From Africa to South America, the phenomenon of drought, which began in 2020,  shows consequences in sectors that affect everything from trade to the economy, the environment, wildlife and finally industry that relies on agricultural resources and livestock.

The development of the Egyptian leather and leather products industry

Egyptian exports of leather products to the African market increased by about 64% in 2022, to $5 million from $3 million the previous year. One report states that leather tanning accounted for 90% of Egypt's exports of leather products, with a 12% increase in 2022, amounting to $90 million. However, there are 17,600 shoe factories employing more than 230,000 people producing about 100 million pairs of shoes per year along with other leather goods. China’s investments in African infrastructure projects fell by 54% last year

Under the sweeping Belt and Road Initiative, China has broadened economic and political influence across Africa. But Chinese lenders and development banks have grown cautious as economic growth slows and borrowing costs rise. That brought funding for Africa projects down to $7.5 billion last year from $16.5 billion in 2021. Whether investment returns to previous levels will largely depend on China’s economic recovery from its zero-COVID policy, the South China Morning Post reported. The country’s most ambitious years of development finance may be behind it.

Africa-China Trade
