Tanneries have begun to move from the city to the Sialkot tannery area, which will largely reduce environmental pollution. The CETP (Central Effluent Treatment Plant) worth one billion rupees is expected to start operating by August this year and will start operating.
This was stated by the president of the Sialkot Tannery Zone Association (STZA) Chaudhry Raza Munir while addressing a press conference in his office. Malik, Syed Shehzada Iqbal, Sheikh Amjad, Shabbir Butt, Mian Muhammed Fiaz, Muhammed Farid, Kashif Ijaz, project director Muhammed Atif and others.
Raza Munir said that Sialkot's business community is proud that the dream of its business leaders from the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) platform has been realized. After its completion, no tanner from the entire district will be allowed to settle his tannery in urban or rural areas.
The chief executive, Sheikh Abdul Waheed Sandal, said the project will increase global demand for Pakistani leather products and Pakistani leather garments. He paid tribute to the services of the founding CEO, Sheikh Naveed Iqbal.
The project was carried out by the platform of the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and began in 2004, while the purchase of land was started in 2010. Construction work began in 2013 and is now being completed, with the inclusion of the wastewater treatment and waste disposal plant.
The project is funded by the federal and provincial governments, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), he added.
