18 Outubro 2022

Maersk (Maersk) and Freighters International (PABOMI) have announced the opening of a consolidation centre in Modjo Dry Port, Ethiopia. The multi-purpose facility will help to simplify and optimise apparel and lifestyle customers’ supply chains – saving cost, reducing their speed to market, and bolstering competitivity. Our integrated logistics offering is all about creating value for our customers,” said Carl Lorenz, Managing Director, Eastern Africa Area, Maersk.

“The new consolidation centre in Modjo Dry Port saves our customers time and cost through consolidation, synergies and providing a single point of contact with greater visibility.

“Ultimately, the new facility will help to make Ethiopia a more attractive and competitive destination for sourcing goods for the apparel and lifestyle industries – key industries for job creation and growing the Ethiopian economy.”

Maersk’s new hub for export or import cargo in Ethiopia will offer a range of warehousing and distribution services that address supply chain issues customers may face.

With direct links from Modjo Dry Port to Djibouti Port and industrial parks, the facility will enable first mile delivery, consolidation, cargo fulfilment and supply chain management solutions.

As decarbonisation is an integral part of Maersk’s strategy, the company said rail service that connects all the container freight stations to Djibouti Port will run fully on hydroelectric power.

Maersk recently inaugurated a new Chicago Air Freight Gateway near Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to offer direct planeside recovery with immediate transfers to the new facility.

The new facility also serves Maersk’s air cargo hub in Rockford Intl. Airport.
