According to the first estimates of the Guanajuato Shoe Chamber (Ciceg), Mexico  may have added36 million pairs of shoes exported during the year 2022, exceeding the volumes of 2021 which, as announced by FashionNetwork.com, had closed with about 29 million pairs.  It would be the nearshoring effect, after the progressive abandonment of Asia by the footwear brands [México podría haber alcanzado los 36 millones de pares de ... - fashionnetwork.com]

According to the president of Ciceg, Alfredo Padilla Villalpando, the value of these exports consists mainly of cowboy boots and more than 80% of the exported pairs were destined for the US market.

"We see that part of this effect on export growth is due to the need for large international brands to diversify production sources and abandon Asia, so Mexico has great development potential," said the industrial leader.

The data still waiting to be made official also reveal that the total production of footwear could have closed the year with 224 million pairs, of which 80% would be produced in Guanajuato.

"Although we are in a real recovery phase, there are still about 26 million pairs to reach the pre-pandemic numbers," the president of Ciceg pointed out in his latest weekly editorial.

About this last information, it is worth mentioning that in 2019, before the outbreak of the health crisis, Mexico produced 250 million pairs per year.
