Council of Leather Exports disputes UK report linking Indian exporters to Russia’s war effort

CLE Chairman Sanjay Leekha told ThePrint that if certain Indian leather companies have seen an uptick in business from Russia, it does not reflect the industry as a whole. Declining sales in China hurt raw hides and skins exports from the U.S.

Between January and October 2022, packers, traders and tanners in the US exported 25.8 million hides, with a total value of just under $1.1 billion.
