Footwear manufacturers are calling on leather retailers not to speculate on prices now that there is high demand.
Alfredo Padilla Villalpando , president of the Chamber of the Footwear Industry of the State of Guanajuato (CICEG), explained that in León there are around 106 companies that cover this part of the supply chain, and at the moment that the shoemakers express that their production goes up, leather producers can get together and agree on very high prices for their materials.
Padilla Villalpando considered that this is a warning not to speculate on prices, otherwise the shoemakers are going to increase their purchase of synthetics and they all lose.
If I say that we are doing very well, the next day we are doing very badly. Because in 30 minutes they get together and decide to increase prices , so the tanner buys it more expensive and they give us even more expensive”, said the businessman.
He also commented that there is interest in buying the leather that used to go to the automotive industry.
“There is leather on the market, the request is that they continue to sell us at a commercial price , not speculative. We will buy what the car does not use, but do not move it, there is no need”, reiterated the president of the CICEG, and said he was happy for the recovery that most of the footwear producers have .
He invited to bet on the foreign market , but also on the national consumer, and regretted that millions of pairs continue to enter illegally through Mexican customs, although he trusts that in the remainder of the year the request made to the Federal Government will be supported, so that this does not happen.
