Chinese become a major force on the duty-free market in the Asia-Pacific region

Chinese is the main consumer in the duty-free market in the world, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. South Korea is the largest overseas tax-free consumption country for Chinese tourist, according to the Rok Customs Service, Chinese trourists consumed 83.4 billion yuan of Korean duty free goods in 2018, accounting for 46 percent of the total overseas tax-free consumption of Chinese. In the same year, 12.93 million Chinese tourists visited Korean duty free shops, accounting for 27 percent of the total number of visitors and 71 percent of foreign customers, and 73 percent of the country's total sales, making South Korea firmly take the top in the global duty-free market.

Beauty products, clothing and footwear, and other health products are all purchased items by Chinese buyers. Online buying, which started a few years ago, becomes a regular channel for Chinese buyers purchasing Korean products.
