The Export Price Index (Iprix) of clothing increased by 3%, while export prices in the leather goods and footwear sector grew by 4.3%, Modaes reports . Inflation continues to rise. The Textile Export Price Index (Iprix) recorded an increase of 8.8% year-on-year in May, in line with increases in recent months, according to data published today by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
In January, the textile Iprix rose by 7.7% and soared in March with an increase of 8.8%. In April, the prices of textile exports registered an increase of 8.5%.
The increase in the prices of textile exports is framed in a context of general inflation. In the fifth month of the year, the general Iprix of the Spanish industry marked the highest rise in the entire historical series, which began in 2006, of 21.6%.
The price of exports from the clothing industry also rose in the fifth month of the year, with a year-on-year rise of 3%. In the case of leather and footwear, the Iprix registered an increase of 4.3% in May.
By more specific groups of activity, the preparation and spinning of textile fibers was the category that most raised the prices of its exports in May, with a rise of 14%. It was followed by the manufacture of textile fabrics, with an increase of 9.1%.
For its part, the Iprix of the manufacture of other textile products closed May with a rise of 6.8% , while the preparation, tanning and finishing of leather increased the prices of its exports by 6%. The Iprix of knitted garment manufacturing rose 4.1% in May.
The Iprix is a short-term indicator that measures the monthly evolution of the prices of industrial products manufactured in the internal market and sold in the foreign market. For its part, the Iprim measures the evolution of the prices of industrial products from the rest of the world. To obtain it, a continuous monthly survey is carried out, which investigates every month industrial establishments that carry out operations in the foreign market.
